This was a case of the plumber with the leaky pipes. My husband and I bought our house 10 years ago, and at the time, the house was about 6 years old. It had already seen 2 owners prior to us, so we were #3! Over the years we’ve wanted to update the cabinets but just hadn’t gotten around to it. We did manage to add the top row of cabinets (because we were desperate for more storage), but they were a completely different white then what we already had. And we also added the open shelves…..melamine, to match the existing white melamine cabinets. Structurally speaking everything was completely sound, and in great condition. But they were melamine. Blah! Did I mention they were/are melamine?
So last week I had finally had enough. I ran out to Sherwin Williams, picked out a color to blend in with my back splash and tile floor, and it was game on. I even made a pit stop at Lowe’s and grabbed some pine shelving, which I stained a rich Dark Walnut. Now my open shelving is a great backdrop to my pottery and serving pieces. I couldn’t be happier with the results. The streamlined color palette makes my kitchen feel so much bigger, and somehow cleaner too. Less busy.
